RSS發明人Aaron Swartz自殺過身, 僅26歲家人剛發出聲明

有份參與RSS 1.0規格開發的Aaron Swartz，本身在程式設計員界非常出名。因為除了RSS 1.0開發外，他也協助創立了Reddit，亦有積極反對當時被稱為外國網絡23條的SOPA/PIPA。他於當地周五被發現吊頸自殺過身，終年26歲。 家人剛就此發出聲明，稱司法制度讓一件沒有受害者的案件，被告人卻有機會要坐足30年監。

據外地傳媒報道，Aaron Swartz近日被美國聯邦政府起訴，指他曾非法下載當地JSTOR的學術文件，數量超過400萬。若果一旦被判和認罪，他有可能會被罰款400萬和要坐30年的監。他家中沒有發現遺書，但網站有一篇似乎是他的遺書的文章。大部份報道相信他自殺的原因，可能就是因為此案件引發的抑鬱病困擾。

Aaron Swartz的家人和朋友仍然未能接受他的離開，並在網站發出聲明，當中寫道Aaron Swartz被控一個沒有受害者的案件，而且MIT還沒有替他辯護。聲明亦稱他是天才，對互聯網貢獻很多。

Aaron's death is not simply a personal tragedy. It is the product of a criminal justice system rife with intimidation and prosecutorial overreach. Decisions made by officials in the Massachusetts U.S. Attorney's office and at MIT contributed to his death. The US Attorney's office pursued an exceptionally harsh array of charges, carrying potentially over 30 years in prison, to punish an alleged crime that had no victims. Meanwhile, unlike JSTOR, MIT refused to stand up for Aaron and its own community's most cherished principles.

網民對此事件反應不一，但不少都估計Aaron Swartz自殺是因為Aaron不滿強權如此對待他。
